Birds are a particularly graceful and intriguing class of animals.  I have been working on this series of mixed-media pen and ink + pastel drawings for the fun of exploring the shape and different characteristics of a variety of birds.  I'm not spending hours birdwatching - the photos I work from come from reference books on birds.

I am particularly drawn to birds exhibiting their personality, or caught on alert, and looking, rather than simply posing.
